Hey
I'm Sarah Wehkamp.
TLDR
Former public and private school teacher.
Left the traditional school system to start homeschooling our three boys.
Now I teach others how to do the same.
THE FULL STORY
The Beginning
I started my teaching journey in the 1900’s.
My very first students were my two younger sisters.
When I wasn’t at school myself I was at home playing school. (The OG Homeschool Mom)
I have always had an interest in education, teaching and learning.
Also cheerleading, traveling, and books.
This is work I assigned and graded for my younger sister while playing school at home.
The Groundwork
After graduating college I followed a gut instinct and left my job at a law firm to fly to Spain and get my teaching certification.
That began a teaching career that spanned three continents, seven countries, six teaching certifications, four languages and hundreds of students.
The Journey
I taught adults, children, 2nd grade, high school, private school...the list goes on.

Teaching Gets Super Personal
In 2010 I gave birth to our identical twin boys.
And in 2015 to another little boy.
I took a step back from teaching and focused on raising my kids.
I toyed with the idea of homeschooling but I couldn’t quite figure out how to make it work.
The Tipping Point
When the kids got older I went back to classroom teaching.
But…
It only lasted half a year before a series of events led me back home.
I watched as my kids love of learning faded. We all felt stress getting out the door every morning. The social situations they were facing were sad and frustrating.
Therefore…
The Decision
In 2022 we made the decision to start homeschooling.
The Epiphany
Homeschooling has been the gift that keeps on giving.
I didn’t know when we started if I had the patience, the knowledge, the interest or the capability.
Homeschooling, to me, is more than an educational choice – it’s a lifestyle that gives us flexibility, freedom and time in the national parks when no one else is there.
And now...
I’m teaching others how to start homeschooling.
Maybe you’ve been on the fence. Maybe you have questions. Maybe you just need a word of encouragement that you can in fact do this.
